West Beach

Whitstable’s West Beach is a long stretch of shingle divided up by wooden groynes. It runs from just south of the town’s harbour to neighbouring Seasalter, is a distance of around a mile and is dog-friendly all year round. The charm of Whitstable’s seafront is encapsulated in the great working fishing harbour. Apart from the photogenic working boats and fisherman huts, there is a craft village, a large harbour café and plenty of fresh fish and seafood.

Seasalter

Just a short walk from West Beach you’ll find this beautiful shingle beach, set right on the mouth of the River Swale with stylish windswept beach houses lining the coast. When the tide is low your’ll find flat sand perfect for your dog to run free and a peaceful atmosphere creates a sense of remoteness.

Leisurely browsing

We love Harbour Street for its pretty little independent shop fronts, boutiques and restaurants. This character‐filled street has barely changed over the past 100 years, which adds to its charm. There’s everything from cheese and wine shops, deli’s selling locally sourced delights, boutiques and bookshops. Our favourite store is Frank, is located at the end of the street and sells textiles to prints, books to ceramics with an ethos of sustainability. Some places will let you in with your dog, others won’t so bear that in mind when wandering around.

Food and drink

Whether it’s pre-walk fuel or a relaxing post walk recharge, food and drink is definitely something Whitstable has a lot to offer.

With so much to do it’s great to make a long weekend out of your visit. One of our favourite spots to stay is the beautiful Tides Cottage, a bright coastal cottage that overlooks the sea, with beach access straight from the front door.
