Dog Treat Recipe | Spring Green Muffins
Spring is in the air, and the world is waking from its wintery slumber to welcome in the new season. Trees put forth blossoming buds and flowers of countless shapes, scents, and shades begin to bloom. To help celebrate the change in season we have put together a dog treat recipe inspired by Spring Greens.
Spring Greens belong to the brassica family, whose prodigious health benefits are well documented. They provide a seriously useful amount of vitamin C, to support your dog’s immune system, and vitamin K, to help build bone strength.
INGREDIENTS
1 Cup of Flour (we use either spelt flour or rice flour depending on your dog’s dietary needs)
1 Cup of Rolled Oats
1 Egg
A large bunch of fresh spring greens
A small bunch of fresh parsley (chopped)
METHOD
Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line a baking tray with non-stick baking paper.
Start with washing and drying the spring greens, then tear into smaller pieces. Add to the lined baking tray, making sure no pieces are overlapping as this helps the greens get crispy.
After 10 minutes in the oven, stir gently and bake a little longer. You’re looking them to be crispy and very slightly golden brown. But watch carefully to prevent burning! Allow the kale chips to rest on the baking sheets once outside the oven.
In a large bowl sieve, the flour and add the oats.
Add the chopped parsley to the flour and oat mixture and stir until combined
Once the kale has cooled break into small pieces and add to the mix along with egg. The mixture needs to be firm and easy to scoop but not to wet (if the mixture is too dry then add a little water and if it is too wet add a little more flour)
Using a teaspoon, scoop the mixture onto a clean lined baking tray and cook in the oven for 10-15minutes or until firm and golden.
Transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool. Please make sure the biscuits are completely cool before giving to your dog!
