Tell us a bit about Alberts and what inspired you to open the Groomers/Shop
We are a dog grooming, retail and daycare shop in the heart of Walthamstow. Our aim is to provide customers with a contemporary approach, dog grooming and care doesn't always have to be about pink bows and perfume. We were lucky to find a great space in Walthamstow, a town that has a lot of dogs.
What’s the best part about running Alberts?
Being your own boss, meeting and interacting with a great community of dog owners in Walthamstow and it’s surrounds.
Tell us about Albert and how he came into your life
Albert is my dog (Dom) and he was probably the best birthday present I’ve ever received. He’s a Cavapoo, he’s black but going greyer by the day, he’s pretty antisocial and obsessed with tennis balls.
How does having a dog fit into your general working day?
Albie comes in to work with me most days, he does have some dog friends he gets on with, otherwise he likes to sit on his bed and work his way through an ostrich bone. It’s about a 45min walk across the marshes from home so he gets a good couple of walks a day.
When you’re not working where do you like to head out to with Albert?
Where we live in Clapton is amazing for walking your dog. We have the Walthamstow and Hackney marshes on our door step, which seem to stretch for miles and there’s an endless selection of routes to choose.
What essentials do you always have on you when heading out for a dog walk, and what do you carry them in?
An extra long lead, great to wear over your shoulder so you’ve got hands free to push the buggy. Tennis ball and treats are a must as well as poo bags obviously. I’ve got a very old Barbour with good deep pockets.
What adventures do you have planned with your for later this year?
We’re thinking of going to Centre Parcs for a long weekend. We also try to get up North to visit family as much as possible, not as straightforward at the moment to do this. Albie loves his Northern holidays.
