Rainy Day Fun: Engaging Indoor Activities for You and Your Dog
Rainy days may limit outdoor activities, but with a bit of creativity, you can turn them into memorable bonding experiences for you and your dog. These indoor activities not only provide physical exercise but also stimulate your pup's mind, keeping them happy, healthy, and entertained. So, the next time the raindrops start falling, embrace the indoor fun and create lasting memories with your furry friend.
Training
Training is one of the best indoor activities for dogs in winter or rainy days. Indoor dog training is simple, all you need is your dog and maybe a few treats. Plus, no matter how old your dog, they can always learn new tricks. Whether your dog is an ace on basic commands or is still learning, even 5 minutes of practicing your sit, down and stays can be mentally challenging.
Hide and Seek
This is great fun for your dog and all you need is some of their favourite treats. Have your dog stay while you hide treats around the home. If your dog hasn't played this game before, start out simple by placing them in plain sight to get them used to the idea. It may take a few tries for your dog to stop relying so heavily on their visual cues and instead start to use their excellent sniffing ability. Once your dog has gone a few rounds, you can make it more challenging by hiding treats in some tougher spots. You can also play this game with toys if your dog is more toy orientated.
Which Hole?
Using a muffin tin and a few tennis balls, this game is super simple to set up. Place your treats in half of the holes, then place tennis balls over each of them. Next, let your dog find the treats by moving the balls with their paw or nose.
Treat Ball
Nearly every dog loves a treat ball – just fill up your favourite with kibble or small dog treats and let your dog enjoy their rainy day afternoon searching for treats. Our favourite treat balls include The Odin Dog Treat Puzzle Toy and Kong Toys.
Roll and Sniff
Rather than throwing away cardboard toilet roll tubes, keep them for rainy day fun. Fill them with scrunched up newspaper with treats hidden inside and let your dog sniff out the goodies.
